Malcolm Wilson
Managing Director of M-Sport
Malcolm has more than 30 years' experience at rallying's highest level, much of it with Ford. As a driver he won two British national titles in the late 1970s and achieved a long-held ambition by winning the British international crown in 1994 - all at the wheel of the Ford Escort. He drove for three factory teams in the World Rally Championship and spent several years as Ford's chief test driver.
Under his guidance, M-Sport has become one of the world's leading private teams with a string of international titles and rally wins to its credit - including two FIA World Rally Championship Manufacturers' titles. As director of Ford and M-Sport's Manufacturer teams at its magnificent Dovenby Hall headquarters in the heart of the English Lake District, Wilson has responsibility for Ford Fiesta's WRC activities and the development of its Fiesta SportTrophy programmes.
"When I was an aspiring national rally driver, hand-fettling my Mk2 Escort in the hope of emulating Roger Clark, the idea of assuming responsibility for Ford's World Rally programme was a pipedream. But in the space of only a few years, we've grown to the point where we can now cope with the pressures and still cater for more private teams than ever before.
"In 2006, we won the FIA Manufacturers' World Rally Championship title with the Ford Focus RS WRC06. It was our first World Championship win and we were privileged to be able to deliver the trophy to Ford, their first WRC title since 1979. We repeated the achievement again in 2007.
"M-Sport is based at Dovenby Hall near Cockermouth in the English Lake District. I was born in the town and grew up in the area, and it makes me very proud to have based the team here. The team's success would not be possible without the people. Their work behind the scenes has never been more important and the world titles would not have been possible without their dedication and the ongoing support from Ford Motor Company. We are not resting on our laurels though, and we will continue to strive to achieve the highest results for both Ford and our customers around the world."
